There is a lot of uncertainty in the world today, with schools, jobs, sports – everything. One thing that is certain is that now more than ever, students deserve the opportunity to be heard, to create, to investigate, to explore interests, and grow. Now more than ever is the time to ensure this generation learns the principles of democracy, and how it should operate.
Illinois YMCA Youth and Government will stand strong in delivering this program to the high school students of Illinois this year, whether the pandemic will allow us to grace the halls of our State Capitol and Supreme Court or if we will be debating our bills, presenting our Forum proposals or arguing our appeals virtually from our houses or parking lots to get wifi. The experience may change, but the story doesn’t – democracy must be learned by each generation, and we are going to do just that.
