Running for Office

In addition to the typical roles that students fill at Youth & Government, there are also a number of offices that students can hold. Below, you can see all available offices along with a very short description of that office’s primary duty. Click on the link for each office to find out more.
Major Offices
- Governor - Meets with bill groups to gather information to help with the decision to sign or veto bills
- Lieutenant Governor - Assistant to the Governor; leads Special Committees
- Secretary of State - Supervisor of the bill flow process
- Chief Justice - Chief officer of the Supreme Court(s)
- Presiding Officer - Keeps an orderly and fair chamber by using parliamentary procedure to lead debate
- Executive Director of the Lobbyists - Coordinates lobbyist activities throughout the Springfield Assembly weekend
Administrative Offices
- Chaplain - Presents prayers/thoughts at opening and closing of sessions and the banquet
- Sergant-at-Arms - Keeper of proper decorum within the legislative chambers
- Clerk of the House / Secretary of the Senate - Reads bill titles and amendments when legislation is brought to the floor
- TV Producer - Leader of the Video Press staff
- Editor-in-Chief of The Observer - Leader of the Newspaper staff
Other Offices
- Committee Chairperson - Leads a committee similar to how a Presiding Officer leads a legislative session
- Bill Flow Clerk - Member of the Bill Flow desk staff
- Head Clerk-Bailiff - Leader of the Clerk-Bailiffs
